How we work with curators
The quality of a playlist campaign comes down to one thing: the playlists. A placement on a playlist nobody listens to is worth nothing, no matter how many followers it claims. This is the part of the business we're strictest about, so it's worth explaining how it works.
Our own network
Ovation Playlists runs on its own network of playlist curators. We're not a broker passing your song along to a submission pool we don't control, and there are no third-party middlemen between us and the person who decides what goes on a playlist.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. It means we know exactly who is behind every playlist we place songs on, we can talk to them directly, and we can pull a playlist out of our network the moment something looks wrong.
How we vet a playlist
Before a playlist enters our network, we review it by hand. We have a strict no-bot policy, and we look at the things that are hard to fake:
- Playlist history, so we can see how it's been built up over time rather than judging a single snapshot.
- Follower-to-listener ratios, because a large follower count paired with almost no listening activity is the clearest sign of a bought audience.
- Engagement patterns, including how listeners actually behave once a track is added.
We also place our own songs into the playlists we work with. That gives us stream counts and listener data we can verify independently, instead of taking a curator's word for it. If the numbers don't add up, the playlist is out.
This isn't a one-time check either. We track follower counts on every playlist in our network over time, and you can see that same history yourself: open any playlist your song is placed on from your campaign and you'll find its follower growth chart right there.
How your song gets pitched
Once your campaign is paid for, a dedicated campaign manager takes it on. Their job is to find the playlists in our network that genuinely fit your sound, then pitch your song to the curators behind them.
Genre matching is the whole point of this step. A placement only works if the playlist's existing listeners are people who would plausibly enjoy your track, so we'd rather take longer finding three good fits than fill your campaign with ten placements that make no sense for your music.
Why we never guarantee a specific playlist
Curators decide what goes on their playlists. We pitch, we make the case for your song, and sometimes the answer is no. That's how it should work: a curator who accepts everything they're sent is exactly the kind of curator we wouldn't want in our network in the first place.
This is why our guarantee is built the way it is. If your campaign manager can't secure placements that fit your style and meet your package's target, you get a full refund rather than a consolation placement somewhere irrelevant.
Every placement is visible
You never have to take our word for where your song ended up. Once your campaign goes active, every placement shows up in your dashboard with the curator behind it, the playlist's description, its current follower count, its follower growth over time, and a direct link to open it in Spotify.
